Now 20, Sofia Todorov reportedly handed herself over to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday. She faces charges of vehicular homicide and two counts of reckless driving. The crash occurred on the morning of May 19, 2024, when Todorov is accused of reaching 124 mph just before crashing into a minivan driven by 84-year-old Virginia Baker. The collision killed 65-year-old Lorene Seeler Young, who was a passenger.

According to court documents reviewed by Law&Crime, Young succumbed to her injuries, while her mother, Baker, suffered “permanent and continuing” harm.

Local news outlet WPLG acquired footage of Todorov’s court appearance on Wednesday. During the hearing, prosecutors stated that the “black box” in Todorov’s Lexus recorded her speed at 124 mph mere seconds before the fatal accident that claimed Young’s life.

WPLG, a local independent news station, obtained video of Todorov’s court appearance on Wednesday. At that hearing, prosecutors alleged that the “black box” on Todorov’s Lexus registered a speed of 124 mph seconds before the crash that took Young’s life.

Todorov’s defense attorney argued that his client was not under the influence, and that the alleged crash was an “accident.”

In addition to criminal charges, Todorov and her mother are being sued by Young’s children and Baker, calling Todorov’s mother “vicariously liable” for her daughter’s alleged conduct because she let her drive the car.

At the hearing, a judge issued a bond of $65,000 and ordered that Todorov avoid driving any motor vehicles if she is released. She was also asked to surrender her passport and wear an ankle monitor. Todorov remains in custody at Broward County Jail.
