‘The system failed’: Arkansas Dad Running for Sheriff After Charged with Murdering 14-Year-Old Daughter’s Rapist

An Arkansas father who killed his 14-year-old daughter’s rapist last year says he is now running for sheriff in Lonoke County.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Aaron Spencer discovered his daughter, 13 at the time, in a vehicle with 67-year-old Michael Fosler on October 8, 2024, sparking an altercation that ended with Fosler’s shooting death.

Police subsequently charged Spencer with second-degree murder after Foster died at the scene.

“I’m the father who acted to protect his daughter when the system failed,” Spencer, a military veteran currently out on bond, said in a Facebook video post.

Fosler had been charged months earlier for more than 40 child sex crimes, including, in part, internet stalking of a child, sexual indecency and sexual assault.

Fosler was out of bond when the shooting happened.

The girl’s mother, Heather Spencer, said she didn’t know Fosler has been back in contact with her daughter, describing the victim as being “targeted, groomed and ultimately raped by the boyfriend of a family friend.”

After he discovered her missing, Spencer reportedly went looking for the teen. That’s when he spotted Fosler driving away with her.

Spencer allegedly forced Fosler’s vehicle off the road. The pair then began arguing, with Fosler lunging at Spencer, according to an affidavit obtained by the Democrat Gazzette.

Spencer told police that he “had no choice” but to shoot Fosler.

“I refuse to stand by while others face these same failures,” Spencer continued.

“This campaign isn’t about me. It’s about every parent, every neighbor, every family who deserves to feel safe in their homes and safe in their community It’s about restoring trust where neighbors know law enforcement is on their side and families know that they will not be left alone in a moment of need.”

Spencer’s pre-trial hearing is scheduled for December 16. His trial has been set for January 26, 2026.
