In a tragic turn of events, a 67-year-old Connecticut resident, previously convicted of domestic assault, has been arrested for the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend. The incident unfolded on Monday night, marking a chilling escalation in a history of violence.
At approximately 7 p.m., Stanley Mulvey placed a distressing call to 911, confessing that he had stabbed his girlfriend and expressing suicidal intentions, according to the Stratford Police Department. This call led officers to a grim scene at a local residence.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered Mulvey sprawled over the lifeless body of 62-year-old Megan McShane on the kitchen floor. Both individuals were covered in blood, and nearby lay a “large kitchen knife,” evidence of the violent encounter.
Despite police instructions, Mulvey refused to move away from McShane’s body. Officers were compelled to physically remove him from the scene. Once detained in a police vehicle, Mulvey made several unsolicited confessions to the officers, admitting to the killing of McShane.
Earlier in the year, Mulvey had been found guilty of a domestic assault against McShane. The circumstances surrounding his presence outside of prison remain unclear, raising questions about the enforcement of protective measures in domestic violence cases.
According to the Connecticut Post, Mulvey had a previous conviction on two counts of interfering with a police officer in 2010 after he lunged at two officers with a knife when they were called about a dispute between him and and ex-girlfriend.
Mulvey was found not guilty of attempted assault in that case but was sentenced to two years in prison on the interference charge.
This time, police charged him with murder and interfering with a police officer. He’s being held on a $1 million bond and is due in court on Wednesday.
