America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling delighted fans when they took to the stage for a Barbie Q&A event in London on Thursday.

The Hollywood stars posed up a storm for the cameras on the red carpet before they took to the stage to chat to host Lauren Laverne about the box office smash hit.

For the occasion, America, 39, cut a sophisticated figure in a beige checkered mini skirt and a matching blazer, which she styled with a high-neck black jumper.

She put on a leggy display in her elegant ensemble and gave herself a few extra inches in a pair of chunky heeled boots.

America, who portrays Mattel employee Gloria in Barbie, was joined by Ryan, who cut a suave figure in a black shirt and a dark grey marl suit.

The co-stars have had huge success this year starring in Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie epic, with Ryan, 43, portraying the leading incarnation of Ken.

The film, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie, broke box office records and became the highest grossing film in Warner Bros history, bringing in more than $1.4billion.

America and Ryan discussed the smash hit live-action movie at the Q&A event amid their jam-packed promotional schedule.

America played Mattel employee Gloria, a mother who has a love for the iconic doll and is desperate to reconnect with her teenage daughter.

The co-stars went on to attend another Q&A event at the BFI Southbank on Friday, though leading star Margot was not able to attend as previously planned.

For the event, Ryan was seen stopping to sign autographs for fans as he headed into the venue for the In Conversation about Barbie event and screening.

He cut a stylish figure in a white T-shirt and jeans, which he styled with a smart cream jacket and sunglasses.

During the Q&A, America then dished on what it was really like starring on the Barbie movie and working with director Greta, who she said is very ‘collaborative’.

She said of Greta: ‘That collaboration, that generosity, she’s the smartest person on the set, but she’s also the most open and collaborative, and she’s having more fun than anybody on the set. She loves making movies so much.’

Ryan added: ‘There’s so many facets to her personality, you can’t help but be enamored. That’s the thing that’s going on with this movie, we all love the movie but we all really love Greta.’

It comes after America revealed she had ‘stopped waiting for the phone to ring’ after her acting work dried up, before landing her role in the Barbie.

She made an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour and upon arriving at the studio, beamed in an all-black outfit consisting a dark leather jacket and short dress.

She completed the look with tights and boots and accessorised with a matching handbag.

The star shot to fame in the title role of 2000s comedy drama series Ugly Betty, but during the interview she admitted that in the last few years, she had ‘stopped waiting for the phone to ring’ as her acting work dried up.

During her appearance on the Radio 4 show, America  explained that before landing the role in the summer smash – which became the highest grossing film of 2023 – she had struggled to find opportunities for herself as a Latina actress.

Her previous role came in the NBC comedy Superstore, which ended in 2021 after six seasons.

She said: ‘It’s wonderful and you know these are the kind of movies we’re told don’t work, they don’t travel, they’re niche or special interest.

‘And yet, here we are and this weird, delightful film has disproved a lot of that. What has it done for me personally?

‘I feel like at a certain point, I stopped expecting the phone to ring in terms of some brilliant Academy Award-nominated director to call and say “I wrote a part for you!”

‘I’ve been in this industry for over 20 years and as a Latina actress, as a woman of colour, as someone who has been from the beginning of my career slotted into certain lanes and boxes, that even in success, the opportunities to really branch out and do things that are not so tightly labelled are few and far between.

‘I thought I was gonna have to do that for myself, I was gonna have to produce. It was incredibly unexpected to get a phone call from Greta [Gerwig].

‘She had written the character Latina, but that was not a part of her journey. It was more about her being a human in a pretend world.’

America went on to reflect that her career has been so different than how she would have expected but admitted it has also been ‘so much better’ than she imagined as well.

She said: ‘It’s like…not anything I imagined it would be, and so much better than I would have imagined.

‘My career has, in large part, been about having to find a different path. There was no path for somebody like me.

‘Yes, there was Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz, some Latinas you could point to but I wasn’t them either. I wasn’t a gorgeous sexpot woman!’
