Ariana admitted that she was most upset that her grandma had witnessed the online hatred.

‘I did cry once, but it was because I felt so bad that my grandmother was seeing the really horrible things that were being said, that had actually nothing to do with the performance, that were just ripping me apart.

‘That’s when I cried, because my grandmother loves me, and she doesn’t want to read that,’ she told Marie Claire.

Speaking about taking to the stage again, Ariana confessed: ‘Have I developed a little bit of stage fright? I would be lying if I said no. But I also challenge myself, and I do scary things every day. And if I’m afraid of something, I should probably do it.

‘Lessons were learned. Every time you step out on a stage, there’s a chance it’s not going to go well for either you or for the audience for whatever reason.

‘And it seems that that was one of those performances. You win some, you lose some.’

And, despite the challenges she’s faced, the star believes her appearance was a success: ‘That was the assignment, like come celebrate women, and I was like “absolutely!”

‘And we did that and it was fun, not going to lie, I had a blast. So awesome.’

She has been left perplexed by the cynics: ‘I don’t understand that part of society. I don’t understand why we use social media to just straight up pick on people.’

During her notorious BAFTAs opening performance, she presented a rap song about the female nominees, that mentioned 64-year-olds, Angela Bassett and Jamie Lee Curtis and more.

Her fun song featured the rap lyrics, ‘Angela Bassett did the thing, Viola Davis, my woman king… Jamie Lee, you are all of us!’

Social media called the performance ‘painful’ and ‘awkward’ before a whole host of memes ridiculed the act.

Angela took the time to message Ariana to make sure she was doing okay, stating: ‘I just wanted to make sure she was okay because, you know, it’s a lot of attention. And she is A-Okay,’ according to Variety.

As the online frenzy took over, Jamie broke their silence and desperately came to Ariana’s defense.

The Oscar recipient stated: ‘I’m unclear as to what the f*** people are on about. She is a fantastic talent.

‘These people should shut the f*** up, back the f*** off, and let this woman just shine her light because she is fantastic. SHE IS FAN-TAS-TIC,’ Deadline reported.
