Australian version of quiz show Jeopardy! is announced with Stephen Fry as host – but there’s a catch if you want to be a contestant
Channel Nine is planning to make a local version of the classic game show Jeopardy!
The Australian series will be filmed in the UK with Aussie expats as contestants to accommodate the show’s British host Stephen Fry.
Jeopardy! Australia will comprise six ‘special’ episodes instead of a full season, reports TV Tonight.
The format of the show sees contestants use their best general knowledge to amass cash as they compete over three rounds.
Quiz show buffs have until May 12 to apply to take part. They must be Australian, over the age of 18 and currently reside in the UK.

The show will be filmed in Manchester by production company Whisper North Ltd.
Since TV Tonight’s report was published, rival website TV Blackbox published an article saying ‘no deal has been done’ between Nine, the rights holders and production company.
Jeopardy! launched as a daytime quiz show on the U.S. network NBC in 1964.
The most recent Australian version of the format aired on Channel 10 in 1993 and featured Tony Barber as host.
Fry is already set to helm a 20-episode daytime reboot of Jeopardy! for British television later this year.
‘In the United States, Jeopardy! is a phenomenon like no other. Whenever I’m in America, I do my damnedest to catch it every weekday,’ he said.
