Bradley Walsh left in tears as he reflects on ‘making memories’ with son Barney on TV road trip

Bradley Walsh broke down in tears as he reflected on ‘making memories’ with son Barney on their ITV show Breaking Dad. 

The programme sees The Chase host, 62, and his 25-year-old son Barney travel abroad in their RV to try out the all manner of daring feats and adventures including bungee jumps, bobsleigh rides and bull riding.

And in a clip from a recent episode of the show, Bradley was overcome with emotion as he contemplated that travelling the world with his boy was ‘just a lovely thing to do’.

As they travelled together to their next destination, turned to his dad and said: ‘Going back to what has been the favourite activity, it’s more about the memories.

‘The memories you make doing these things, and being with you, we are so blessed to be able to do this thing.’

Agreeing with Barney, Bradley said: ‘Yeah, you’re right, I just think it’s, very, umm…’ however, he was unable to finish the sentence as he choked back the tears.

With his eyes welling up, he went on: ‘It’s just a lovely thing to do, it’s just amazing.

‘I’m not upset, I find it very emotional, very heartwarming, I really do.’

The father and son duo then gave each other a high-five, with Bradley adding: ‘Love you, man.’ 

The latest series sees the pair travel around Costa Rica, with Bradley and Barney trying their hand at a helicopter flying lesson.

Last year, Bradley gushed about his son’s bravery during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show.

He told the host: ‘Barney is the man now… that I always wanted to be. And that’s absolutely true. 

‘He’s got no fear, he’s young, he’s finding his first feet in business and stuff. I just always wanted to do that.

‘Anything Barney wants to do on [Bradley & Barney Walsh; Breaking Dad], I’ll give it a go.’

The pair have a close relationship and in 2021, Barney even surprised viewers as he made an appearance in his dad’s other ITV show, The Larkins.

However, in recent news, it’s reported that The Larkins is set to be axed following disappointing ratings and ‘cast disagreements’ following lead actress Sabrina Bartlett’s departure.

Having returned to the small screen between October and November for series two, The The Darling Buds Of May reboot lost two million viewers this time around.

Despite a star-studded cast including Bradley and Joanna Scanlan, this year’s opener was watched by 2.9 million people, compared to 4.8 million last year.

The actor who plays Cedric ‘Charley’ Charlton did appear in the second series despite on-set tensions that led to his co-star Sabrina quitting the show. 

A source told The Sun: ‘The Larkins is going to be dropped in the new year — the writing is on the wall.

‘The ratings for series two were disappointingly low and cast disagreements on set have been an ongoing problem for the production team.

‘Sabrina’s issue with Tok and her decision to leave, was a massive problem for the bosses. But there have also been other disagreements.’
