Mulling things over? Carey Mulligan looks deep in thought as she arrives at Venice Film Festival dressed in a chic black suit
She is tipped as the next up-and-coming British star on the Hollywood scene following her lead role in The Great Gatsby.
And that label itself is probably a lot for Carey Mulligan to take in, as she arrives for the opening day of the 70th Venice Film Festival looking rather pensive.
London-born beauty Carey, 28, was kitted out in a chic all-black ensemble as she was spotted stepping onto a water taxi at the Palazzo del Cinema.

The Great Gatsby star, Carey, opted for a tailored black suit blazer, cropped suit trousers, a black vest top and black brogues.
She even accesorised her outfit with more black, a pair of dark shades and a black leather shoulder bag, and wore a simple gold bar necklace.
Carey, who married childhood friend, Mumford & Sons’ Marcus Mumford last year, scraped her platinum blonde locks into a messy bun and pinned back her long fringe, and looked to be wearing little make-up allowing her alabaster skin to radiate with her natural beauty.

With one hand in her pocket and her other clenched between her teeth, Carey stepped into a water taxi, named Rocco, and helped by a Venetian man as she left the main venue, The Palazzo del Cinema, and presumably was heading off to another theatre screen.
She picked up a copy of the New York Times, which she read on the boat, whilst presumably off to another one of the four different locations, the Palazzo del Cinema, Palazzo del Casinò, PalaBiennal and Sala Darsena, to watch eight different screens showing a total of 20 films who will vie for the coveted Golden Lion at the world’s oldest film festival.
The jury will award prizes for feature-length films, including the Golden Lion for Best Film, the Silver Lion for Best Director and a new award, the Grand Jury Prize.
