Channel 10 presenter Angela Bishop gave Hugh Grant a surprise gift after his awkward Oscars interview with model Ashley Graham went viral.

After the 95th Annual Academy Awards in Hollywood last Sunday, the British actor received immediate backlash on social media for rolling his eyes at the model while she was interviewing him on the red carpet.

The 62-year-old kept his answers very short and looked blatantly disinterested in her questions.

Following their awkward interview, Channel 10 spoke to The Notting Hill actor on Friday about his new film Dungeons & Dragons and presenter Angela Bishop gave him a gift.

She surprised him with a video message from Nicholas Hammond, who played Friedrich Von Trapp in The Sound Of Music, because Hugh said it’s one of his favourite films.

‘I have a message for you from a very good friend of mine, Nicholas Hammond, who played Frederick,’ Angela said.

The video message from Nicholas was then shown on screen, and he said: ‘My great friend Angela Bishop told me you enjoyed the film and that is great to hear, I will pass that along to the other Von Trapp children.

‘I wanted you to know that I am so happy you liked it and I very much enjoy all of your work too.

‘I will go now, so long to Hugh, and Hugh and Hugh!’

The British actor then said that it was so lovely to get a message from him, and that he was a bit star struck.

He appeared much bubblier in the interview compared to his disastrous Oscar red carpet appearance, and he thanked Angela for the kind thought.

During his awkward chat on the red carpet with model Ashley, the About A Boy star kept his answers short and looked blatantly disinterested in her questions.

Kicking off the chat, bubbly Ashley said: ‘What was it like to be in Glass Onion? How fun is it to shoot something like that?’

But she was met with a cringeworthy response: ‘Well I’m barely in it, I was in it for about three seconds,’ Hugh said.

‘It still must have been fun though, you had fun right?’ Ashley said as she powered through the one-sided chat.

‘Erm… almost,’ the actor replied as he looked away.

Grinning and bearing the interview, the model asked: ‘What are you wearing?’ While Hugh offered an insightful: ‘My suit.’

Viewers at home were left feeling rather embarrassed over the exchange, as they praised Ashley for how she handled the difficult situation and said the moment was ‘the worst’ since Will Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 ceremony.

However, others said her questions were boring, and questioned why a model with little hosting experience was interviewing on the Oscars red carpet.
