Sack the make-up artist! Claudia Winkleman arrives to the GQ Awards with smudged eye-shadow, messy hair and an uneven tan
Oh Claudia Winkleman.
While many of the GQ Awards female guests had spent hours preening themselves in front of a mirror before making their way down to the Royal Opera House, one woman clearly hadn’t.
Eye-make up smeared, hair windswept and a fake tan Ross Gellar from Friends would have been proud of, Claudia, 41, certainly wouldn’t want to be using that make-up artist again.

What happened to Claudia Winkleman? The TV presenter seemed to have got ready in the dark confines of a box before heading to the GQ Awards
But maybe the state of her facial affairs wasn’t down to a third party, but rather the result of a rushed DIY job in the backseat of a car on the way to the mens’ magazine event.
And like Bridget Jones in the Edge Of Reason, the sheer extent of the half-hearted make-up application didn’t look quite so bad in the confines of the vehicle which delivered her to the awards show.
However, once under the flashbulbs and in front of the bright black and white backdrop, Claudia looked more like Lauren Harries than the sophisticated TV presenter the country’s used to seeing on Film 2013.
Good friend you have there: Either Kirsty Young wearing her glasses, or was just being mean not to highlight what was going on on the TV presenter’s face
Can’t hide that face: The over-the-shoulder pose couldn’t mask the true devastation of Claudia’s make-up job
Certainly the Twittersphere was shocked when photos of Winkleman surfaced on the internet.
One user, @katy_bamber wrote: ‘Why does Claudia Winkleman always look like she’s just woken up in last nights makeup?’
While another – @JustKyleMc – asked another valid question: ‘At what point did Claudia Winkleman look in the mirror and think “I look good”?’
Her friend the BB presenter, Kirsty Young, certainly didn’t mention anything before hitting the red carpet, wearing a smug look that said ‘I’ve not a blush out of place’ as she wrapped an arm around Winkleman who actually looked rather sleek in the backless jumpsuit with white stilettos.
Admitting defeat: Claudia Winkleman joked about her make-up malfunction on Twitter the next day
Claudia herself made light of her make-up malfunction the morning after, conceding that perhaps she needs to tone down the eye makeup:
‘Oh my. They’re not wrong. Eyeliner going in the bin. Ish,’ she posted on Twitter.
Happy Gallaghers: Noel Gallagher and wife Sara looked content at the event and giggled together like newlyweds
Sleek: The event attracted the cream of the showbiz world including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Daisy Lowe who wore a daring slashed to the waist dress
Dressed to impress: Justin came well equipped in his suit and tie to present an award to designer Tom Ford
The Strictly Come Dancing Result show co-host missed the BBC 1 talent show’s red carpet extravaganza to attend the GQ Awards.
But even though the likes of Daisy Lowe and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley stole the show, Claudia could certainly feel secure in the knowledge that at least on that night, she had the perfect face for her BBC Radio 2 show.
