A dad transformed a closet into a luxurious suite for the family’s golden retriever, Bentley, and now, thanks to his daughter, his project is going viral.
Kaitlyn Witthar (@kaitlynwitthar35) gained 23.8 million views, 2 million likes, 96,000 likes and 3,200 comments after uploading her father’s doggy DIY project to TikTok.
While we’ve seen dutiful dog dads go viral on the app before — like the dad who spent $400 in vet bills to diagnose his limping rescue dog, only to make a shockingly touching discovery — Witthar’s video is making the rounds as an example of “what dads do after saying they don’t want the dog.”

“pov: my dad thinks our dog needs his own house so he attempts to turn the downstairs closet into one,” the now-viral video’s caption reads.
The project, according to Witthar, was inspired by the TikTok famous golden retriever dad @aguyandagolden — whose own closet turned luxury-doghouse project also gained millions of views on the app.
Set to the tune of the renowned “Home Depot Beat” TikTok sound, the video shows Witthar’s dad taking to the closet to create a penthouse worthy of Bentley, the family’s beloved dog.

After Witthar’s initial video went viral, she later followed up with updates on her father’s progress — and of Bentley enjoying the space.
“Finished product coming soon!!” she wrote in the video’s caption.
This installment also went viral, gaining over 3.2 million views, 412,000 likes, 18,000 saves and 1,400 comments.

A few days later, to the delight of millions, Witthar provided a much-anticipated tour of Bentley’s finished home.
Some viewers commented to remark upon the luxury of the closet turned suite.
“This would rent out for $2500 in NY,” commented @jaylonald.
“THE TV?!!! the dog is living a well deserved life,” wrote @crumblingmind.
Others joked about about Witthar’s dad and the relationship most fathers seem to have with family pets.
