Doctor Strange 2 ‘Would not Make Sense’ Without Wanda-Vision, suggests Elizabeth Olsen

Doctor Strange 2: Earlier this year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally began its Phase IV, which includes TV shows for Disney Plus in addition to the franchise’s trademark epic films. This change in style allows Marvel to experiment with different types of storytelling and give supporting characters an opportunity to be the primary focus.

In the Multiverse of Madness, Doctor Strange directly builds off WandaVision, serving as the next chapter of Scarlet Witch’s story. It isn’t at all startling, some familiarity with WandaVision was to be expected. Earlier this year, Feige said that the movie is prepared in a way that MCU fans wouldn’t really need to watch WandaVision to understand Doctor Strange 2. But recently while discussing the link between the two, Actress Elizabeth Olsen teased that they might be connected after all. She said

“Without WandaVision, Doctor Strange wouldn’t make sense. I do feel like it fully leads into where we find her. It feels totally connected to the series.”

Feige talked about the possibility of the movie being difficult to understand for newer potential audience was a key part of his conversation with director Sam Raimi, so they tried their best to make the film as accessible for all potential audiences as possible; given that fans who saw WandaVision will have a greater understanding of the story. Nevertheless, the movie should be able to stand its own ground.

Premiering in January, WandaVision quickly became one of TV’s most popular shows and went on to receive widespread praise. Odds are, most everyone interested in seeing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has already watched WandaVision. If you haven’t there’s more than enough time for you to binge the show, as the movie isn’t set to be released until March 2022.

Until now, WandaVision has received not 1 or 2 but 23 nominations at the 2021 Emmy Awards. Some categories comprise the Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series (Elizabeth Olsen), Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series (Paul Bettany), and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series (Kathryn Hahn).
