Kylie Jenner recently shared her experience of becoming a mother earlier than her peers, describing the journey as “really hard” due to being the first in her circle to have children.
During a conversation on the show Khloe in Wonder Land, the 28-year-old discussed the challenges of raising her daughter Stormi, now 7, and her son Aire, 3, while still navigating her own identity in her 20s. When host Khloe questioned how she manages to balance motherhood with her personal life, Kylie was candid in her response.
“I believe I’ve found a good balance,” Kylie said. “I still feel very much like myself. It was challenging having kids at a young age, dealing with the emotions and postpartum.”
Khloe noted that Kylie was the first among their friends to start a family. Kylie, who founded Kylie Cosmetics, confirmed this and elaborated on her friendship with Yris Palmer, highlighting how they grew closer through motherhood despite the initial growing pains.
“I was the only one. Yris and I became much closer. She’s a bit older than me, and we both had children around the same time,” Kylie explained. “But I think I managed pretty well. It just requires time.”
Khloe praised her younger sister’s journey, saying, “You did a great job.”
Kylie admitted it took her about a year after each birth to truly feel like herself again, something Khloé said is “…normal,” adding, “I think it just takes a minute to get your f…… mojo back.”
Kylie has spoken before about the challenges of having children young. In her August 2024 British Vogue interview, she remembered the shock of her first pregnancy.
“I was 19 when I got pregnant, 20 when I had her,” she said of Stormi. “It was wild.”
She explained that although her family didn’t see her as “that young,” the reality of such a major life change took time to fully process. Looking back, she has more compassion for her younger self.
“I have this daughter and I just want the best for her and I want her to just love herself unconditionally,” she said.
But being the only one in her friend circle with kids brought its own challenges, especially when her peers didn’t always understand her schedule.
“I have to remind my friends who don’t have kids all the time, who are like: ‘Let’s do this in the morning!’, that I have children,” she said. “Letting go of your selfishness and your freedom at a very young age… I don’t think we realize how selfish we are as human beings until we have children. But, you know, that is also the biggest pro.”
Still, Kylie says the tradeoff is worth it. Now 26 with a first-grader, she joked about the future, “… I’m going to be 40 with a 20-year-old,” she said through tears, then added, “And we’re going to be best friends.”
