All season long, Lifetime’s presenting a series of movies with premises that have been ripped from the headlines. That includes Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard.
Emily Osment stars as Magen Fieramusca, a woman convicted of murdering her friend and pretending that the friend’s baby was her own. It’s a story that’s absolutely too wild to believe — but Lifetime says this story was ripped from the headlines.
So, just how true to life is Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard? Were any names or details changed for TV? And where is Heidi Broussard’s murderer now? Here’s what we know.
Is Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard based on a true story?
Yes, Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard is based on a true story. And while the Lifetime movie changes the names of the rest of the people involved, Magen Fieramusca and Heidi Broussard are the real names of the friends turned murderer/victim.
Fieramusca and Broussard first met in the late ’00s when they were both attending the Texas Bible Institute in Columbus, Texas. The two remained friends and in 2019, Broussard learned that she and Fieramusca were both pregnant at the same time. In reality, Fieramusca was only pretending to be pregnant, going so far as to tell more of her friends and creating a baby registry on Amazon. Broussard and her newborn daughter both went missing on December 12, 2019, after Broussard dropped her oldest child off at school. Security footage and an eyewitness placed Fieramusca and her car at Broussard’s apartment. where the witness saw another woman and a baby get into the backseat.
Suddenly Fieramusca returned to her home with a baby in tow, surprising her ex-boyfriend at the home they shared. She claimed to have given birth at a birthing center, although Fieramusca could not actually name any birthing center. The authorities confronted Fieramusca’s ex-boyfriend as he left Target after going on a run for baby supplies, showing him a picture of Heidi Broussard’s missing child. The ex identified that child as his child, and thus the FBI closed in on Fieramusca.
On December 20, 2019, officers found Broussard’s body in the trunk of a vehicle at Fieramusca’s home. Autopsy reports indicated that she had been strangled to death with a leash. The baby, however, was found unharmed and returned to her father on December 23.
As for Magen Fieramusca, she pled guilty to murdering Heidi Broussard and was sentenced to 55 years in prison. Fieramusca waived her right to an appeal, meaning that this case is closed.
