Euphoria breakout star Sydney Sweeney is set to star in a new Barbarella reboot film as the title character originally played by Jane Fonda.
While little has been revealed about the remake, and whether the storyline and style will differ from the original, Fonda sounded skeptical and expressed worry at what it might look like, when asked what she thinks about it.
‘I try not to. Because I worry about what it’s going to be,’ the longtime leading lady, 85, told The Hollywood Reporter, before implying that she had a few ideas of her own on how to shoot Barbarella, but it was met with deaf ears by the producer.

‘I had an idea of how to do it that [original producer] Dino De Laurentiis, when he was still alive, wouldn’t listen to,’ Fonda explained during the THR interview.
The actress, who underwent brutal chemotherapy in the wake of her non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis last year, would go on to confess that Barbarella ‘could have been a truly feminist movie.’
Fonda starred in a 1968 adaptation of the French comic book series by Jean-Claude Forest from director Roger Vadim, whom Fonda was married to at the time that ultimately ended in divorce in 1973.

Not much is known about this new version, but Vadim’s take on the story follows an astronaut from the 41st century who sets out to find and stop the evil scientist Durand Durand, whose Positronic Ray threatens to bring evil back into the galaxy. according to a synopsis on IMDb and Deadline.
The film wasn’t a hit with fans at the box office, but it has since gone on to become a cult classic, and it solidified Fonda as a bonafide sex symbol at the time.
Along with Fonda, the original Barbarella also starred John Phillip Law, Anita Pallenberg, Milo O’Shea, Marcel Marceau, David Hemmings, Ugo Tognazzi and Claude Dauphin.
Fonda has offered some criticism of her Barbarella movie over the years, but she has come to see Vadim’s version with more of a sense of humor, she confessed during an interview with CBS in 2005.

News of the remake with Sweeney in the titular role went public last October, and was confirmed by the actress in an Instagram post, where she declared, ”time to save the universe,’ in the caption, alongside an illustrated poster from the original movie.
A story by Deadline revealed Sweeney will also serve as executive producer, to go along with her lead role in the film.
So far, an official release date for Sweeney’s Barbarella reboot has not yet been revealed.
As for Fonda’s health, the actress confessed the chemotherapy treatments ‘really hit me hard’, but ultimately it helped beat her cancer into remission.
