A Place In The Sun star Jonnie Irwin has detailed a ‘torrid night in pain’ leaving him to have to dose up on painkillers amid his ongoing terminal cancer battle.

The TV presenter, 49, has kept his 141,000 Instagram followers up to date with his day-to-day wellbeing, and over the weekend he managed to head out to the English countryside for some fresh air in-between treatments.

But this was not without a night of ill health for Jonnie, who revealed that he had gone out on a bike ride after taking lots of medication.

Writing on his social media profile, Jonnie said: ‘After a torrid night in pain I dosed up on PK’s and was able to enjoy the beautiful Lakes via E-mtb.

‘I’ll probably pay for it later but grateful for the window, the company and the weather.

‘Only my second time hired one machines but I’m hooked! #thelakes.’

He also took to his Instagram stories to tell his fans: ‘After a terrible night’s sleep, up and down and getting painkillers… oh it was just horrible. It’s a beautiful day.

‘So I’ve got a steroid inside me and some more painkillers and I’m determined to make the most of this.’

The TV star recently enjoyed a family getaway to Marrakesh last week and has been keeping fans up to date with the trip via social media.

Jonnie shared a clip of the Moroccan city’s gorgeous landscap on Thursday, leaning over the man driving him to get the shot as he joked: ‘Let me know when this is uncomfortable’.

It comes after he revealed that he was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal lung cancer in August 2020, which then spread to his brain.

And A Place In The Sun decided not to renew his presenting contract following the news, as they claimed they were unable to get the correct insurance for him to travel for the show.

Jonnie shared a collection of videos to his Instagram Stories showing the scenery from his car window.

Jonnie revealed last month that he was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2020 and given just 6 months to live.

And the presenter was left heartbroken after revealing the diagnosis to his bosses on show A Place In The Sun – who then axed him from the hosting role.

Free Form Productions, who make the programme, said they were ‘unable to secure adequate insurance cover’ for him to continue international filming amid the Covid-19 crisis and said they understood his ‘frustration’ at the decision.

A statement released to MailOnline read: ‘Jonnie has been a hugely important part of the A Place In The Sun family for over 18 years and all of us were deeply saddened by his diagnosis.

‘Much loved by everyone on the production, no stone was left unturned in trying to enable Jonnie to continue his international filming with us during Covid but the production company were unable to secure adequate insurance cover for him.

‘Whilst we were unable to continue to film abroad with him, we’re delighted that he was able to remain as part of our team in the UK for exhibitions. We of course understand how frustrating this must be for him at this incredibly difficult time.

The former estate agent’s TV career began in 2004 when he was selected from hundreds of applicants to co-present Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun with Jasmine Harman.

He was the programme’s longest-serving presenter, alongside Jasmine, who is still with the show.
