‘I think maybe to a fault we tend to focus on what’s next, but I’ve had so much fun on so many different things and different genres and dramatic things as well, but getting to do this was really special.’

The Portable Door was directed by Jeffrey Walker and adapted from Tom Holt’s popular 7-book fantasy series.

Patrick portrays intern Paul Carpenter in the film and said he loves that fantasy films ‘give you a chance to escape into another world’.

‘I love fantasy stuff, especially stuff like this that’s grounded in the real world and has that magical realism element,’ he said.

One of the film’s themes is the idea that ‘nothing is a coincidence’ and Patrick said it adds an interesting layer to the film.

‘I’m pretty open minded about that stuff, I’m fascinated about what goes on underneath everything we see. Adding that element into a fantasy story is really fun.’
