Police Haven’t Named Him as a Suspect, but Real Estate Movement Suggests D4vd Is Nervous

It has been more than a month since the Los Angeles Police Department discovered the body of Celeste Rivas Hernandez inside the trunk of a Tesla registered to R&B artists D4vd. While the teen has since been laid to rest close to her hometown, the police appear no closer to naming a suspect in her death. Internet sleuths have spent weeks combing over Discord and song lyrics in an attempt to connect D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, to the deceased teen. While they’ve gathered compelling evidence, the LAPD has not named him as a suspect. That doesn’t mean D4vd has no reason to worry; frankly, his recent real estate movement suggests he’s very concerned. D4vd has been busy transferring ownership of houses.

The Los Angeles Police Department declines to name a suspect in Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s death

The investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a 14-year-old found inside the trunk of a Tesla owned by singer D4vd, is moving slowly. The LAPD’s hands appear to be tied while they wait for a definitive ruling on the teen’s death.

According to Newsweek, a spokesman for the LAPD stated that the agency is not willing to name a suspect at this time. In the statement, they note that they do not have enough evidence to state that a murder was commited at this time. Because Rivas Hernandez’s death has not yet been classified as a homicide, they do not currently have any suspects.

Investigators have been in touch with D4vd, searched his house, and claimed he was cooperating early in the investigation. In the wake of the discovery, he has canceled his world tour, remains stateside, and is reportedly reorganizing his assets.

D4vd broke a lease and moved out of a house in Hollywood

While the LAPD has not named the singer a suspect in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, they did search a home associated with D4vd. On September 17, the LAPD was seen at a Hollywood Hills home rented by D4vd’s manager, Josh Marshall. They reportedly raided the home, removing evidence, including electronics and computers. Within days of the raid, Marshall requested to terminate the lease.

The property owner, Mladen Trifunovic, spoke to the Daily Mail shortly after the raid. He revealed that Marshall had rented the property in February 2024. He requested to end the lease early following the raid. Trifunovic told the publication that the home, which came equipped with security cameras, was rented for $20,000 per month. Reportedly, the tenants hadn’t been a problem. Trifunovic said he was unaware D4vd was staying at the location until the raid. It’s unclear why he didn’t rent the property in his own name. D4vd was seen days later loading boxes and items into a truck. The home is now vacant.

D4vd has now deeded over houses to his mother

Breaking his lease and moving out of his rented Los Angeles pad is not the only major real estate move D4vd has made in the days since Celeste Rivas Hernandez was discovered inside his vehicle. TMZ obtained property records that show D4vd has been busy deeding over property to his parents.

According to the documents, the “Romantic Homocide” singer transferred ownership of two Houston-area homes to his mother. The deed to the first home, where his parents and siblings were already living, was transferred on September 18, just one day after the LAPD searched D4vd’s leased home in the Hollywood Hills. He transferred the second property on September 22. It is unclear who, if anyone, has been living in that home. Both houses were originally held by a trust associated with D4vd.

The moving of assets is interesting, though potentially problematic. The timing of the transfers seems to suggest D4vd could be trying to protect assets in the event of criminal charges or even a civil lawsuit. The R&B singer hasn’t been named a suspect and has not spoken about his association with the teen. Still, several people from his inner circle have claimed they knew Rivas Hernandez. They said they believed her to be D4vd’s college-aged girlfriend.
