IT: Welcome to Derry marks HBO’s eagerly anticipated continuation of Andy Muschietti’s spine-tingling IT films from 2017 and 2019. Transporting audiences back to the 1960s, the series introduces a new cohort of Losers grappling with the ominous presence of Pennywise, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. Drawing heavily from Stephen King’s universe, the narrative intriguingly weaves in characters like Dick Hallorann from The Shining, who encountered the sinister clown during its previous cycle of terror in Derry.
The series kicks off in 1962, nearly three decades before the events of the 2017 IT film. We meet Mike Hanlon’s grandfather Leroy (Jovan Adepo) and his friend Pauly (Rudy Mancuso), who are stationed in Derry amid Cold War tensions with Russia. Initially, the Hanlons are charmed by the quintessential American town. However, they soon discover that beneath its picturesque facade lies a lurking malevolence—both supernatural and disturbingly real.
