'Swarm' thriller from Donald Glover stars singer

Billie Eilish is in Swarm, a new thriller by Donald Glover.

Most of us know and love singer Billie Eilish from her chart-topping hit singles like “Ocean Eyes” and “Bad Guy.” But believe it or not, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter is now breaking into a whole new corner of the entertainment industry: acting.

Swarm was released in full on Friday via Prime Video, and her fans cannot stop buzzing about it.

According to USA Today, Swarm is a psychological drama said to be inspired by the next-level fame of artists like Beyoncé. It centers around a young, tormented Black woman named Dre (Dominique Fishback) who develops an unhealthy obsession with the world-renowned pop star Ni’Jah (played by Nirine S. Brown). Eventually, Dre’s obsession turns violent, transforming the woman from a loyal fan into something much darker.

As for Eilish, she plays Eva, a character Rolling Stone described as a “mysterious” cult leader. Fans caught a glimpse of the singer in her new role after Eilish shared a clip on Instagram early Thursday.

So far, the show is getting some interesting feedback. Rolling Stone has called it an “ultraviolent fever dream of a series,” while The Hollywood Reporter praised Fishback for a “superb” performance.

On Instagram, Eilish’s fans clearly can’t wait to binge the seven-part series themselves after watching the teaser clip.

“This is gonna be crazy,” one follower commented.

“i’ve watched this so many times,” said another.

“oh i’m obsessed,” someone else declared.

But aside from Eilish’s unexpected role, there’s also another surprise element to Swarm that fans might have missed: It’s co-written by none other than Malia Obama.

“She’s just like, an amazingly talented person,” Glover recently told Vanity Fair. “She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard.”

“I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon,” Glover added. “Her writing style is great.”
