Sydney Sweeney talks taking on role of spy Reality Winner

Sydney Sweeney is having a major moment in her career.

The White Lotus star, 25, appeared on the Today show on Wednesday to talk about her new movie Reality and choices she made when she was a kid that set her on the road to her spectacular success.

The film is about the former National Security Agency contractor Reality Winner who was arrested in 2017 and charged with leaking a confidential document to the news site The Intercept during the 2016 Presidential election.

The film is based on the 2021 Broadway play, Is This a Room, which is a verbatim account of Winner’s interrogation and arrest.

The Euphoria star – who appears in the upcoming rom com Anyone But You – looked radiant in a mint green blazer and pleated skirt which she paired with white socks and black, high-heeled slingback shoes.

‘She is such a complicated individual. And when I first read the script I’d never read something that was taken directly from the transcripts,’ she said.

‘Not a single word is changed, its the actual FBI interrogation.’

And the actress actually got to meet with Reality as she prepared for the role.  

The Washington native also talked to Hoda Kotb about choices she made as a kid that got her where she is today.

When she was 11, a movie was shooting in her hometown of Spokane, Washington and she wanted to audition and found a unique way of telling her parents.

‘I put together a five year business plan of what could happen if my parents let me audition for this small movie that came to town.’

She laid the plan out logically, if somewhat loftily, projecting that if she auditioned for a short film, she’d get noticed by talent agents, which would allow her to connect with a big name producer, and so on. 

‘They realized I was very serious about who I was and what I wanted to do,’ she said.

And another dream of Sydney’s is coming true too: she gets to try out her comedy skills in her upcoming romantic comedy Anyone But You, which she just finished filming in Sydney, Australia.

Earlier this week, she revealed to Variety and said she and her co-star Glen Powell, 34,  ‘laughed every day’ on set.

‘It was so much fun, honestly. We laughed every single day and the cast and the crew were just a bunch of really great people, and we all got along,’ she said.
