If you’re only using cookie cutters to make cookies, you’re missing out. You can use these small kitchen tools for a ton of DIY home crafts. In this episode of ITK: Kitchen Hacks, we show you how you can make tealight candles, bird food ornaments and more with cookie cutters you already have at home or with an inexpensive, new set like this Stainless Steel Cookie Cutter Set on Amazon.
Cookie Cutter Hack 1: Cookie cutter candles
You can use cookie cutters as molds to create fun-shaped candles. First, place cookie cutters on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then, add wicks into the center of each cookie cutter and fill each with colored wax. Let the wax solidify, and remove the cookie cutters.
Cookie Cutter Hack 1: Bird food ornaments
Feed your outdoor friends with snacks in cute shapes! Again, start by placing cookie cutters on a lined baking sheet. Then, create the bird food mixture: Pour half a cup of hot water into a bowl, then stir in two gelatin packets until they dissolve. Then, mix in one-and-a-half to two cups of birdseed. Fill each cookie cutter halfway with the bird food mixture, then add a piece of twine and fill the rest of the way. Let it dry overnight.
Cookie Cutter Hack 1: Cookie cutter crayons
Fill a baking dish with peeled crayons and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Let it cool for 20 minutes, then use cookie cutters to form shapes. Freeze the entire tray, then cut out the excess crayon wax. Use the beautiful, swirled crayons to create new craft projects!
