It seems like the simple ribbed white tank top is summer 2023’s most popular shirt. From Selena Gomez’s Instagram to the Bottega Veneta runway, it’s everywhere on everybody. Why? It’s easy to style, it’s comfortable to wear, and it looks good on everyone.
You can get a white tank top pretty much anywhere, so you should have no trouble finding your best fit. However, J.Crew’s Vintage Rib Shelf-Bra Tank Top is pretty perfect — as the name suggests, it even has a built-in bra.

One issue with wearing any white tank top is hiding your bra straps. No matter which way you move, they’re likely to peek out. However, J.Crew’s tank makes it easy to go without one. Seriously, did the retailer just makes this easy style even easier and even more flattering?
In addition to the shelf bra, it’s semi-fitted, and it has a long, curved hem. It also has a lightweight cotton ribbed fabric that’s soft and slightly stretchy. You can tuck it into your favorite denim shorts, wear it under a blazer, pair it with a slip skirt and more.
“Love this tank!” wrote one reviewer on J.Crew’s website. “Will dress up with skirts and wear with my jeans with cute accessories and feel pretty, this tank works with everything… No gaping arm holes, doesn’t sit too low on the bust and the shoulder straps do not fall down. For some reason, shoulder straps always seem to be so long on me but not this one.”
While some reviewers suggest sizing up, if you want a little extra support, I personally suggest sizing down. I recently purchased this tank in one size below my regular size, and I love that it’s a little more fitted.
You can get this tank in white, as well as in black, khaki and “chicory” orange for $39.50. (There’s also a red-striped option that’s $45.) Get yourself the white one, or stock up on a few colors if you happen to fall in love with the fit as much as I have.
