People are searching more about Munster Shooting as A Hammond man was shot by Police at a petrol station after they claimed he tried to ram them with a stolen SUV.

The culprit was Roy Viverette, 30, of Hammond, Indiana, according to the Police.

A State Police incident report states that at around 7:40 pm CT, Munster Police searched for a stolen SUV near Ridge Road and Manor Avenue.

About ten blocks east of the Illinois/Indiana state line, at 323 Ridge Road, they discovered the black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been reported stolen.

Viverette jumped into the Jeep and started to hit the Police cars with the SUV as soon as the officers pulled into the gas station’s parking lot.

A Police officer shot at the SUV, striking the Jeep’s windscreen. Unfortunately, little information regarding the case is available because it is still delicate.

Munster Shooting: 30-Years Old Roy Viverette Arrested

Following a physical altercation with a Munster Police officer that resulted in the officer firing his firearm, a Hammond man was taken into custody Wednesday night, according to state Police.

Just before 8 p.m., Munster Police officers discovered a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee at a gas station at 323 Ridge Road, according to a statement from Indiana State Police.

The defendant, 30-year-old Roy Viverette, hopped into the stolen Jeep and slammed the patrol cars with it when the officers pulled into the gas station parking lot.

Viverette was fired upon by a Munster policeman, who hit the Jeep’s windscreen with his bullet.

According to State Police, Viverette exited the Jeep and fled toward the west, away from the gas station. Viverette was stopped with a Taser by one of the officers who chased after him.

After being detained, Viverette was taken to a hospital for a checkup before being sent to the Lake County Jail.

According to authorities, Viverette is the subject of an active complete extradition warrant from Cook County, Illinois, for several offenses.

Additionally, Cook County, Illinois (Chicago) has issued an active extradition warrant for Viverette for several crimes committed in Illinois. Munster Police have not updated the officer’s status.

Munster Shooting: Is Roy Viverette In Jail?

Regrettably, not much information about Roy Viverette was discovered because, at the time this piece was being written, the Police had not provided any information about the suspect.

The suspect was examined for injuries at a nearby hospital before being taken to the Lake County Jail. However, no other details about the suspect were discovered.

Detectives from the State Police are investigating a Wednesday night gunshot involving Munster Police.

At the request of the Munster Police Department, Indiana State Police investigators are looking into the event.

The name of the officer and whether they were placed on administrative leave were withheld by State Police.

Viverette’s contact with the officers resulted in no injuries. News 8 has contacted the Munster Police Department to inquire further.
