Tom Verlaine was an American lead singer and guitarist for the rock band Television.
He started the group in 1973, and in 1977 they issued their self-titled debut album. The album was well-received by critics and was regarded as a classic of punk rock and new wave movements.
Verlaine recorded several solo albums beginning with “Tom Verlaine” in 1979, following the breakup of Television in 1978.
He had won accolades for his lyrics and guitar playing. Additionally, he had worked with various other musicians and bands, including Richard Lloyd of Television, The Feelies, and Sonic Youth.
Likewise, he has published an illustrated book called “The Old Man Mad About Drawing” and held multiple art exhibitions.

Tom Verlaine and Patti Smith allegedly had a relationship when they were both active in the fledgling New York punk scene, according to The Guardian.
Patti is also a singer-songwriter, poet, and visual artist who is one of the most significant figures in the punk rock movement.
She made headlines in the 1970s through her band, The Patti Smith Group, and has since recorded several solo recordings.
Additionally, she is a well-known author who has published numerous poetry and autobiographical books.
On the other hand, on Tom’s birthday, Patti posted a tribute to Tom on her Instagram page.

Tom Verlaine was born to parents Victor and Lillian Miller. He belongs to a Jewish family in Denville, New Jersey.
At age six, a singer relocated to Wilmington, Delaware, with his family. Then, he started learning the piano.
After hearing the Rolling Stones’ “19th Nervous Breakdown” in his adolescence, Verlaine was motivated to pick up the guitar and began a protracted period of experimenting with creating his style.
His parents sent him to boarding school, where he met Richard Meyers, a troublemaker.
With $50 between them, the two came up with a plot to go to Florida. They primarily hitchhiked their way there like the teen-rebellious Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer.
The two traveled as far as Alabama, where they spent one night camped in a field and built a Fire to stay warm.
Unsurprisingly, the field caught Fire when they started throwing flaming sticks around it, and they were then taken into custody.
