The Project’s original co-host Carrie Bickmore has announced she would quit her 13-year run at the end of November.

The 41-year-old Bickmore said, “It’s been the hardest decision of my professional life to make this call, but it’s time for a new challenge, time for the next chapter.”

She did not specify her ambitions, but according to insiders, it is not to succeed Tracy Grimshaw on Nine’s A Current Affair.

Bickmore held the title of The Project’s longest-serving panelist longer than both her initial co-host Charlie Pickering and in-house comedian Dave Hughes.

The Project, which airs weeknights on Network Ten, has included Bickmore as a presenter since 2009, raising her status as a television host.

For her performance on Rove & The Project, Bickmore won the 2010 Logie Award for Best New Female Talent on May 2, 2010.

Jonathan Green, editor of The Drum, and leaders of the Australian coffee industry criticized Bickmore in December 2010 for endorsing McDonald’s in a shot for The Oprah Winfrey Show, which McDonald’s confirmed as paid promotion.
