Bryan Randall Death Cause

After a personal three-year struggle with ALS, Sandra Bullock’s longtime partner Bryan Randall passed away at the age of 57.

Bryan Randall’s family told PEOPLE, “It is with great sadness that we share that on August 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS.”

Bryan made the decision early on to keep his ALS diagnosis a secret, and those of us who cared for him tried our best to comply.

The family statement continued, “We are incredibly grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the terrain of this illness with us and to the amazing nurses who became our roommates, frequently sacrificing their own families to be with ours.”

“At this time, we ask for privacy so that we can grieve and accept that we cannot say goodbye to Bryan,” the statement reads.

The declaration was endorsed by “His Loving Family.”

According to People, Randall’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Massachusetts General Hospital and the ALS Association.

ALS, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, has no known treatment and is deadly. However, each patient’s ALS develops at a different rate.

Although 10% of ALS patients live at least 10 years, it is predicted that they will only live two to five years after their symptoms appear. In some nations, it is also referred to as motor-neuron illness.

The illness is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease in honor of the US baseball player who received the diagnosis in 1939 at the age of just 36.

Bullock has two adopted children, son Louis, 13, and daughter Laila, 11, while Bryan has an adult daughter named Skylar from a prior relationship. The couple is not parents together.

According to People, Sandra and Bryan started dating a few months after they first met and even went to Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux’s wedding the same year.

When things became serious with Bryan, the actress was in the midst of adopting her second child.

What is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)?

It is a neurogenerative disorder that impacts the nerve cells in the spinal cord and the brain, according to the Mayo Clinic. People who have it experience a substantial lack of muscle control and it grows worse over time.

Treatment

There is no cure for ALS and the disease is fatal, but it progresses at different speeds in patients.

Symptoms

The early symptoms of ALS include muscle twitching, limb weakness, trouble speaking and swallowing, and muscle twitching. It gradually impairs muscular control and affects a person’s capacity for breathing, moving, speaking, and eating.

A person with ALS may experience problems walking, tripping, and weakness in their knees, ankles, and hands, depending on where their nerve cells degrade.

Additionally, it may cause issues with muscular twitching and cramping in the shoulders, arms, and tongue. According to the clinic, individuals with ALS have gone through untimely episodes of crying, laughing, and yawning as well as alterations to their thoughts or conduct.

Risk factors

Genetics is one of the risk factors for ALS that researchers have identified because, according to the clinic, roughly 10% of those who are diagnosed with the disease have a gene that was passed down from a family, a condition known as hereditary ALS. A 50% possibility exists that a child of an ALS carrier will carry the gene.

The risk of developing the disease increases as people get older, with the most frequent age range for those who have it being between 60 and 85. According to the clinic, men are more frequently diagnosed with ALS before the age of 65 than women are.

Smoking and exposure to hazardous chemicals are two more factors that have been connected to ALS.

The clinic reported that military personnel has been diagnosed with ALS at a higher rate.

Causes

There is no known cause of ALS, according to the Mayo Clinic, and heredity plays a factor in a small number of cases.

Lou Gehrig’s Disease

As well as being known as ALS, it is frequently referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Between 1923 and 1939, Lou Gehrig was a dependable first baseman for the New York Yankees. He was renowned for his power and toughness, gaining the moniker “The Iron Horse” during a string of 2,130 straight games.

The baseball player is credited with saying, “For the past two weeks you have been reading about a bad break,” during a speech on Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day on July 4, 1939, at Yankee Stadium. I still believe that I am the luckiest person alive today.

His popularity and notoriety extended beyond baseball. On June 2, 1941, he passed away, two years after his diagnosis.
