The Australian rock legend was hospitalized last week and is receiving treatment after contracting bacterial pneumonia, and has been forced to cancel upcoming gigs.

The rocker said in a statement on Friday that he will be unable to play the By The C festival in Torquay, which was over the weekend

‘I’m sorry to let you know that I’ve been receiving intravenous antibiotics over the last 36 hours to treat bacterial pneumonia,’ he said.

‘Unfortunately, this has stopped me from traveling to Noumea to join Rock The Boat 2023 as planned,’ he continued.

‘My band will still perform on board, together with my daughter Mahalia and other special guests.

‘I’d like to apologize sincerely to everyone for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused, but the doctors have confined me to bed for two days.

‘The timing couldn’t be worse. I’m expected to make a full recovery in time to perform live at By The C in Torquay,’ Jimmy said.

Jimmy Barnes Surgery

He was on bed rest for months earlier this year and was forced to cancel his summer tour to receive emergency hip surgery.

He underwent a major hip operation in late 2022 to ease years of chronic pain.

‘We had some (live) things planned, but they fell through because of my surgery,’ Jimmy said.

Barnes spent time recovering in his second home in Thailand with his wife Jane and was on the mend in recent months.

He had to regain his strength and for some weeks required the aid of a cane to walk, but he recovered fully in March.

On Tuesday, Jane Jimmy Barnes’ wife, shared a photo of her husband enjoying a piece of toast for breakfast from his hospital bed on Twitter.

‘Good morning! Toast & whisky marmalade after a good night’s sleep makes for happiness all around. Slow & steady does it,’ she captioned in her post, adding the hashtag ‘#PATIENCE’.

The rocker said in a statement ‘This infection has knocked me for six so there’s no chance that the doctors will let me out of bed for the next few days.’

Jimmy Barnes’ wife has shared a promising health update for the singer, the update was met with well-wishes from fans, who prayed for Barnes’ speedy recovery.
