SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A teenager is dead following an overnight shooting in Springfield.
Officials from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office said their deputies and officers from other agencies responded to the area of West Lenox and Glenwood Avenues around 1 a.m. for a report of shots being fired. When they arrived, they found a 19-year-old male had been shot.
He was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance for treatment, but he did not survive. Doctors pronounced him dead at 1:45 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Sheriff’s Office did not provide any further information.
If people living near Lenox and Glenwood have doorbell cameras or a home security system, the Sheriff’s Office asked that they review the footage from those cameras recorded between 1 and 3 a.m. If people are seen in that footage, people are advised to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 217-753-6840 or Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427.
