UPDATE, 9:02 p.m.: In a revised statement released on Wednesday, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office clarified that Justin Mayes is being sought only for questioning. Currently, there are no warrants issued against him.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has revealed that suspects have been identified in the investigation of a shooting incident that resulted in a 3-year-old child being injured by gunfire on Sunday.

On Wednesday, authorities disclosed that their investigation has pinpointed Justin Mayes from Beech Island, S.C., and Jermaine Dixon from Graniteville, S.C., as key persons of interest in the case.

Jermaine Dixon was apprehended during a traffic stop in Graniteville on November 19 and subsequently taken to the Aiken County Jail. He faces local drug charges, with additional charges pending from Richmond County.

On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, warrants were issued for two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Criminal Damage to Property in the First Degree.

Mayes, according to RCSO, is wanted for questioning only. Mayes does not have warrants at this time.
