BURKE COUNTY, Ga. () – In light of recent violent incidents and shootings, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on Monday detailing their response to the growing concern for community safety.

On November 17, the sheriff’s office announced in a press release that it has joined forces with the Waynesboro Police Department to introduce enhanced security measures aimed at safeguarding residents.

“Effective immediately, collaborative proactive teams have been deployed to areas showing a rise in criminal activity,” the statement highlighted.

Residents of Waynesboro will notice a stronger law enforcement presence, including “increased traffic enforcement, checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles, warrant service operations, and focused investigations into gang-related activities,” the BCSO reported.

Additionally, the sheriff’s office is actively cooperating with the Georgia Attorney General’s Office and neighboring law enforcement agencies to bolster these efforts.

Last week, a victim died after being shot in at a gas station on Nov. 13.

On Sunday, three were injured in a shooting in downtown Waynesboro.

Authorities are also looking for information about a shooting that occurred on Nov. 12 in the area of A Street and Davis Road.
