MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — Costen Campion arrived in Oxford, Mississippi, looking forward to traveling as a walk-on for the Rebels Track and Field team, but across five years of competition, that opportunity became more than he expected.

The Mahomet-Seymour grad became a two-time NCAA regional qualifier, two-time scorer at the SEC Championships, finishing top ten in Ole Miss history in weight and hammer throws.

The chance to achieve these marks came from plenty of perseverance.

“There were so many days I came to practice and I really didn’t want to throw I really didn’t want to lift, I was so tired from doing all this schoolwork,” Campion said. “I have so much on my plate, and there are times that I didn’t really want to be there, If I’m being frank.” “I think still showing up and giving 100%, having teammates who had the same mentality as me, that was a really big help.” “I was very grateful for my teammates, my coaches, just everyone along the way.”
