CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — It was a different kind of stake out as Champaign County law enforcement took a break from patrolling the streets and raised money for a great cause.
Officers set up shop outside the North Fair Texas Roadhouse for their annual tip-a-cop fundraiser. 10% of dine-in orders went to Special Olympics Illinois.
Organizers said they had a good turnout, which is par for the course.
“Never had an issue where I reach out to these departments, they they’re usually immediately, helpful to both the command team and the officers themselves,” said correctional officer Micah McMahon. “Usually the first thing they want to do is come out and support a great cause. These officers and a good chunk of them are coming on their own time doing, volunteering their time in uniform to just raise money for a great cause. And that’s what makes this all worth it.”
