CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — There will be an overnight closure on I-57 because of a project at the I-72 overpass in Champaign.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the closure will be at mile marker 235 on I-57. The project involves the removal of beams on the existing I-72 overpass at I-57 and will require a full nighttime closure of I-57 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. April 23-24. The I-72 interchange ramps will remain open throughout the removal.
Drivers should expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. The use of alternate routes should be considered, when possible, in order to avoid the work zone.
Motorists are also urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
