Horse Sanctuary asking for community help to stay afloat

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — A local horse sanctuary says without the public’s help, they’ll soon have to find new homes for their animals, who they say give a sense of hope and peace to the community. New Path Horse Sanctuary is asking for the community’s help to continue fulfilling their mission of providing a place of refuge where aging horses can live out their days as well as bond with humans to the benefit of both.

“We try to really make this a wonderful community thing where you can come and learn about every kind of horse and donkey, a mule and minnie and enjoy them. They’re all very sweet and pleasant to be around, very calm and kind,” said Darlene Demayo, Owner of New Path Horse Sanctuary.

From equine therapy to veteran’s programs New Path does it all. Owner Darlene Demayo has over 30 animals, all rescued and living out their days doing what they truly love to do, which is bring joy and happiness to everyone who visits.

“It’s a place where you reconnect with life in a simple form, and you get to learn from the horses that they live in. The minute they live in that very moment and minute that they are right there, they’re not thinking about tomorrow or yesterday, and we have to learn to be a little bit more like them. So being around them is very calming. It’s healthy for them, it’s healthy for us. So we need each other,” Demayo stated.

Demayo says the goal of the non-profit is to bring a little slice of heaven to everyone, which is why she doesn’t charge an admission fee.
However, she says the cost to run her operations are increasing every month.
Now she’s asking for the public’s help, so she won’t have to rehome any of the animals and be forced to shut down.

“What we try to be a zoo, a horse zoo, and we want to keep this for our own little children who can’t go visit horses just anywhere. You’re not going to go to a facility that boards horses and be able to come and explore and touch and be safe and learn,” said Demayo.

New Path Horse Sanctuary is open every day from 10-4 pm, and if you would like to volunteer or just come visit, we have those details if you click or tap here.
