MELBOURNE, Fla. – A Delta Air Lines flight had to make an unexpected stop at Melbourne Orlando International Airport on Monday due to an emergency situation.

The flight, numbered 305, was en route from Fort Lauderdale to New York’s JFK Airport when it was redirected. This decision was made after a smoky smell was detected in the first-class section of the cabin.

The aircraft, an Airbus A321, was carrying 170 people, including crew members. Fortunately, everyone on board was safely evacuated without incident.

Delta has reported that their maintenance teams are thoroughly examining the plane to determine the cause of the issue.

“The safety of our customers and team members is our top priority,” Delta stated. “We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused to our passengers’ travel plans.”

The passengers were “reaccommodated” and later landed at JFK Airport, the airline said.
