Donald Glover recently opened up about a significant health scare that compelled him to cancel his tour last year. Initially described as an “ailment,” Glover revealed during a performance on Saturday night that a doctor had informed him he suffered a stroke.
Performing under the stage name Childish Gambino, Glover shared this revelation while on stage at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles. His comments quickly circulated on social media, drawing widespread attention.
“You guys voted for a ‘where have I been monologue,’” Glover, 42, told the audience. “I experienced severe head pain while in Louisiana but continued with the show. My vision was impaired, so when we reached Houston, I went to the hospital. That’s when the doctor said, ‘You had a stroke.’”
Expressing regret, Glover mentioned feeling like he let people down, adding he still hasn’t visited Ireland. He disclosed that doctors discovered a hole in his heart, necessitating two surgeries.
Reflecting on his experience, Glover shared, “They say everyone has two lives, and the second begins when you realize you only have one. You’ve got just one life, and I must say, the life I’ve shared with you all has been a true blessing.”
His representatives did not immediately respond to request for comment.
