Effingham County Fire Rescue investigating fire at IAA Auto Auctions

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga ()- The Effingham County Fire Rescue is investigating a Wednesday evening fire at IAA Auto Auctions.

Around 8:25 p.m., a tow truck driver entering the lot reported seeing a fire in the back section of the lot.

Within 7 minutes, Effingham County Fire units arrived on the scene and found multiple vehicles on fire.

Units did request the Rincon Fire Department for assistance.

According to Officials, by 9:08 p.m., the fire spread was stopped and contained; all fires were extinguished by 10:10 p.m.

Units remained on scene to cool residual heat and ensure fires did not reignite; all units cleared the scene at 11:45 p.m.

Out of the 2,000 vehicles on the lot, 42 vehicles were damaged by fire.

As of now, it is unknown how long the fire was burning before the tow truck driver saw and reported it.

The start of the fire is still under investigation.

Due to the extent of the fire, the cause cannot be determined, but the on-site security footage showed no signs of foul play or suspicious activity.
