Female faces Arson charge for fire on New Year’s Day in Graniteville

GRANITEVILLE, S.C. () – A Graniteville woman has been charged with Arson in the second degree after a fire that took place on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Sallie Jett Douglass, 25, was arrested New Years Day after deputies from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Midland Drive in Graniteville, S.C. in reference to a structure fire.

Fire crews that arrived on the scene informed law enforcement that they believed the was intentionally set.

In the incident report, a responding deputy “observed an area of the garage where the fire was contained by a room” as well as a “pile of heavily burnt debris that had pink paint surrounding it.” The responding deputy further stated, “While speaking with Sallie, I observed the same pink paint on her shorts and her legs. I also observed heavy black soot from smoke to be surrounding her nose and mouth area.”

An arson investigation was conducted and investigators found probable cause to charge Jett Douglass with Second Degree Arson.

Jett Douglass remains in custody at the Aiken County Detention Center.
