Humberto becomes third consecutive major hurricane to start season
Quality not quantity.
The 2025 hurricane season-to-date has been below normal; however it has produced a few notable storms.
Humberto became the third hurricane and third major hurricane of the 2025 hurricane season.
This marks the first time since 1935 that the first three hurricanes of a season all became major hurricanes.
A major hurricane is defined as category three intensity or stronger.
The first hurricane of the season, Erin achieved category 5 intensity.
Hurricane Gabrielle reached category 4.
Humberto is also forecast to reach category 4 status.
