COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. — During a meeting on Tuesday, the Columbia County Board of Commissioners shared the latest updates on the ongoing data center project proposal.
Chairman Douglas R. Duncan, Jr. announced that as of November 18, Georgia Power has given its approval to the proposed power consumption model. This development marks a significant step toward securing a tenant for the data center.
“I expect that the developer and the future occupant will finalize the land purchase by December 19,” Duncan stated.
Officials from Columbia County have assured residents that the costs associated with potential construction and infrastructure will be borne by the end user, ensuring no financial impact on the community.
Additionally, Duncan mentioned that the developer, Trammell Crow, is in the process of acquiring adjacent properties to expand the project area.
“We have advised them that any such properties for data center use must comply with our newly established Data Center (DC) zoning classification,” he said.
