BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Georgia Southern football team is gearing up for the Birmingham Bowl, where they’ll face off against their Sun Belt Conference rival, Appalachian State, for the second time this season.

On Thursday afternoon, Head Coach Clay Helton spoke to the press and expressed the team’s excitement about participating in the bowl game. Helton highlighted the significance of the matchup, noting that facing a conference rival adds an extra layer of excitement. He remarked that the event provides an opportunity to showcase this rivalry to a national audience.

During the press conference, Coach Helton was also asked about the future of bowl games in college football.

“I hope it continues,” Helton stated. “We’re in the entertainment business, and it’s important for everyone to understand that. Our postseason games, including both the College Football Playoffs and the bowl system, are crucial components of what we offer.”

The Birmingham Bowl is scheduled to kick off on December 29 at 2 p.m.
