HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. () — Lowcountry businessman Walter Czura wrote and produced the independent film, “The Final Run.”

The movie screened at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera in May 2025. The movie is set in Beaufort County and was inspired by actual events.

Based on the first major marijuana smuggling ring in America, “Operation Jackpot,” the movie is a fictionalized account of what happened in the lowcountry during Preside Ronald Reagan’s “War on Drugs” in the 1980s.

Czura spoke with News 3’s Andrew Davis about the movie and how he sees it as a love letter to the area’s past.

“I’ve been deeply touched by the positive reception and interest in our film and the events of that era it portrays,” said Czura, who is currently working on the script for a sequel. “It’s been a success story of humble beginnings, hardship and strength of community here in the American South.”
