In Washington County, Virginia, a dramatic police chase unfolded on Wednesday, culminating in the arrest of a man from Alabama. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) reported that the incident began with a Honda Accord speeding at 107 mph in a 70 mph zone near Exit 29 on Interstate 81 around 11 a.m.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Muhammad Camara from Homewood, Alabama, made a desperate attempt to evade law enforcement by exiting the highway at Exit 32. In the process, Camara’s vehicle caused significant damage to several fences in nearby pastures.

Despite his efforts to rejoin the interstate, Camara’s escape plan was thwarted when he crashed the car. Undeterred, he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, sprinting across multiple lanes of I-81 traffic and vaulting fences in a bid to elude capture.

Authorities swiftly organized a search of the area, leading to Camara’s arrest. He now faces a series of charges as a result of the high-speed pursuit and subsequent foot chase.

After a search of the area, Camara was arrested and charged with the following:

• Reckless driving
• Felony eluding law enforcement
• Felony vandalism

As of Thursday, Camara is being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.
