CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The University of Illinois Foundation has a new home. The foundation had been operating out of Harker Hall for the last 30 years. Now, the Philanthropy Center has opened across the street from the State Farm Center.

The $35 million dollar project took almost two years to build. The money for the building came from private donations and financial reserves. Officials say it was a much-needed upgrade. The new space has offices, mini libraries, and meeting rooms.

Jim Moore, Foundation President and CEO, says this facility will help support their mission of supporting the university and students for years to come.

“We think that this facility will help us continue to illustrate the importance of private giving. It will help us engage donors more appropriately,” Moore said. “We’ll be able to host events here. We’ll be able to actually have donors come to campus and have a chance to explore how their philanthropic passions can match up with the university.”

Moore added that the building was tailored for the current staff’s needs. They wanted both collaborative and remote working to be possible. The foundation is looking to host an open house for the public sometime in mid-May.
