Illinois Dominates with Boswell’s Record-Breaking Performance Against Florida Gulf Coast

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – The Illinois men’s basketball team has kicked off their season with a strong start, securing a 2-0 record following their Friday night victory.

The Illini dominated Florida Gulf Coast, achieving a commanding 113-70 win.

Coach Brad Underwood’s squad surged ahead with an impressive 18-1 lead right out of the gate. Kylan Boswell spearheaded the team with a personal best, scoring 31 points. Freshmen Keaton Wagler and David Mirkovic contributed significantly with 22 and 17 points, respectively. Zvonimir Ivisic added to the team’s success by scoring 16 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and achieving seven blocks.

Both Boswell and Mirkovic secured double-doubles during the game.

By halftime, Illinois had built a substantial 59-27 lead and maintained their momentum throughout the rest of the match.

Cal transfer Andrej Stojakovic made his Illini debut after missing both the exhibition match against Illinois State and the regular season opener vs Jackson State due to injury. He finished with nine points, five rebounds and and three assists.

Illinois was without four players due to injury: Brandon Lee, Tomislav Ivisic, Mihailo Petrovic and Ty Rodgers.

The Illini now turn their attention to a ranked opponent. No. 10 Texas Tech visits State Farm Center for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
