SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois State Police hope to increase the number of female police officers, and to do that, they’re hosting their first ever all-women recruitment event.

The State Police Academy in Springfield will be open to the public on March 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During the event, Illinois State Police will share employment information and offer opportunities to meet with professionals specializing in forensic science, investigations, telecommunications, crime scene services and patrol.

Illinois State Police is also participating in the 30X30 Initiative, which seeks to “support and advance the representation,  experiences, and well-being of women in policing agencies,” according to State Police. Data from the Department of Justice indicates that only around 14% of full-time sworn officers and 11% of first-line supervisors in local police department are women.

During the event, women are also invited to learn more about civilian career opportunities, including forensic science, computer crimes, criminal intelligence, information technology, human resources, accounting, logistics, evidence technician, firearms eligibility analyst and more.
