CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — In a historic performance for the Illinois men’s basketball team, freshman David Mirkovic achieved a remarkable feat not seen in over five decades during their game against Colgate.

Mirkovic, a promising talent from Montenegro, scored 27 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, marking the first time an Illinois player has recorded a 20-point, 20-rebound game since 1972.

Demonstrating his shooting prowess, Mirkovic converted 8 of his 16 field goal attempts, including 3 of 7 from beyond the arc, showcasing both efficiency and range.

This victory propels the 14th-ranked Fighting Illini to a 4-0 start this season, maintaining their undefeated record.

In a dominant display, Illinois made 11 of their 37 three-point attempts and controlled the boards with a 49-29 rebounding edge, extending their lead to as much as 24 points in the second half.

Another tough test awaits the Illini on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the United Center, where Illinois will take on No. 8 Alabama, who’s coming off an 87-80 loss at home to No. 2 Purdue.
