A tragic incident has unfolded in Johnson City, Tenn., where a young woman is now facing serious charges following the death of a child. Jasmine Bell, 25, has been charged with reckless homicide, among other allegations, after the unfortunate event that transpired in October 2023.

The Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) has been at the forefront of the investigation. A department spokesperson explained that the charges are linked to an incident that occurred in October. It began with a distressing medical call reporting an infant who was not breathing, and despite efforts, the child did not survive.

  • Reckless homicide
  • Aggravated child abuse
  • Filing a false police report
  • Tampering with evidence

As the investigation advanced, authorities gathered additional evidence, prompting a grand jury to recently present its findings, which resulted in Bell’s indictment. This chain of events culminated in Bell’s arrest this past Tuesday, as confirmed by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office’s online records.

According to the JCPD, more information was obtained by investigators, which led to a recent grand jury presentment and ultimate indictment against Bell.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reports on its online inmates list that Bell was arrested on Tuesday.
