MITCHELVILLE, S.C. () — Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park has many events planned for Juneteenth week.
Beginning Thursday, June 12, learn about the many kinds of birds you can see in Freedom Park. The event is called Naycha and B’uhds. The Hilton Head Audubon will conduct this interactive demonstration highlighting the deep connection between nature and the Gullah Geechee culture’s celebration of wildlife and wisdom. The event is free and starts at 11 a.m.
That same night, you can experience Freedom Park under the stars. Sleepover at the Park starts at 6 p.m. and the cost is $20 per person.
Friday, June 13 is Children’s Day. The fun begins at 11 a.m. and is free for everyone. That same day, enjoy a traditional Drum Circle at 5:30 p.m. This event is also free to attend.
The Annual Juneteenth Celebration is Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10 per person. R&B artist Leela James will perform.
On Thursday, June 14, get your running shoes ready. It’s the Annual Juneteenth 5k. The race starts at 9 a.m. Click here to register.
